The vagaries of the draw saw us again up against the Peninsula Swans for the 3rd time this season & in consecutive weeks. This time on a neutral venue at Adcock Park, West Gosford. Having had a convincing win against the Swans last week, where our boys relished the mud & slush of our home ground, it remained to be seen if our u11's could repeat the dose on a much drier pitch. We started the game well, taking a lead into the 1st break. The Swans dominated the 2nd quarter though, with our boys finding it tough to clear the ball beyond midfield. Peninsula outscored us in this term & the teams went to the half-time break with scores level. Coach Leigh's team talk at the long break must have done wonders, as our Hawks "flew the gates" to start the 3rd quarter, with 3 consecutive goals early & 5 in total for the quarter. We went on with the job in the final quarter, ending with another convincing victory. There were some strong individual goals & more pleasing, some goals as a result of great teamwork in the lead-up. The final score was Saratoga Hawks 10.5.65 def Peninsula Swans 2.6.18 As was the case last week, half our team scored majors, again proving it is very much a team contribution, something our boys & coach can be very proud of. Thanks to Rohan & Calum from the under 9's, who played up for us today. Well done to all players, as everyone played a part in today's win. The Coach's Award went to Haven B who spent time in midfield, then scored 2 goals when moved into the forward line. Whilst the Player of the Week was earned by Aaron B. It was a terrific display from Aaron today in the forward line, in what was his season best performance so far since giving AFL a go this winter. |
