Today, the Saratoga Hawks u11's kept alive their finals hopes with a strong away win in our round 14 clash with Bateau Bay. A big thanks to Callum, Rohan & Wade from the under 9s. These 3 boys each played a full game to cover for a couple of our regular players who were unavailable today. In a very low scoring 1st half, goals were hard to come by. Midway the score was 2-2-14 to 1-3-9. Our boys stuck to our plan of playing a flowing brand of footy, very different to our opponents who flooded one area of the ground. Our tactics payed off as we had a superb 3rd quarter & went on with the job to record a 6-10-46 to 1-8-14 win. Player of the Week was Alec W. He ran all day, took plenty of marks, did lots of great ruck work, cleaning up in defence & was a contributor to the scoreboard. Wade B. came back from a big knock early to receive the Coach's Award. He showed great effort in the forward line against bigger & older opponents. It now comes down to next Sunday's final round again vs Bateau Bay but this time at Saratoga Oval. The winner will claim a finals birth, the loser will bow out. Thanks to our supportive families who braved the cold today & we need to have them in full voice next Sunday to help get our boys over the line & into the finals! |
