Taking Advantage of Home - SaraHawks 11's v Gosford

Post date: May 24, 2015 10:42:36 PM

Today our u11's Saratoga Hawks hosted the Gosford Tigers at a very waterlogged Saratoga Oval. With our players very much accustomed to training on a wet oval, when the same conditions apply on game day, the home ground advantage seems to be at it's highest for us.

We led by 23 points at quarter time, 39 points by halftime & established a 60 to nil scoreline by late in the 3rd quarter. This became the final score under the 'mercy rule'.

The big win was a result of excellent teamwork, including effective shepherding, running into space, hand balling & wanting to get to the loose footy more than the opposition.

Because it was such a good team performance, it was tough for coach Leigh to settle on just 2 award winners.

In the end, Ben was awarded the Player of the Week. Ben, at full forward, proved very difficult to handle for the opposition to handle. He is really starting to use his bulk to out muscle his opponent to get his hands on the footy & to break into enough space to kick at goal. Ben scored nice goals from both set pieces & on the run. He also assisted others by hand balling to teammates to share the scoring.

Tristan got the Coach's Award. Tristan was heavily involved throughout & definitely concentrated more than previous rounds & was rewarded accordingly.

Congrats to everyone including our coach - a terrific performance from all. We look forward to the coming rounds with optimism.

And thanks to our families & supporters for wading through the slush & cheering on our u11's from the boundary line!
