Sarahawks Under 9 Gold Did us Proud.

Up against a much larger opposition, the Sarahawks Under 9 Gold did us proud today. They were playing on a larger ground than they were used to and this meant today was all about running. After The Blues rocked away at the start, Spencer Morris started to get on top of the big guy from Bateau bay and the momentum started to turn from half back. This continued in the 2nd qtr with Jerome and Ben clearing the ball into the centres and Deano and Connor tackling and kicking well. The hold tackles were executed well and it seems to be a natural part of the kids skill set.

In the 3rd quarter there were quite a few scrambles as both teams upped the tempo and tried to dominate the game. That was not to be as the contest was close all the way through the 2nd half. Liam took possession, got the ball off to Macka under pressure which set us off again.

In the last qtr Connor broke the hawk’s goalless game, kicking on the run. Both JJ and Arian were standouts with Mackenzie attacking and running hard.

The magic moment was a passage of play that saw 3 licks and 23 marks to the hawks in a row as they ran into space a kept possession of the footy. We will continue to work on this next week at training as that one passage of play demonstrated how quickly we can move and control, the footy. Really well done Sarahawks.

The player of the week was hard to pick this week with Macka, Spencer, JJ, Ben and Arian all dominating at different times of the game. But Arian who did this consistently across the quarters was awarded the coaches award this week.

Well done all and see you on Thursday at 4,30pm!
