Sarahawks Under 11 v Killarney Vale Black

Post date: May 10, 2015 4:5:6 AM

On a sunny, but coolish Mothers Day at Saratoga Oval, our u11's hosted Killarney Vale Black, both teams running at capacity of 15 per side.We were running into the wind in the 1st quarter & struggled to get the ball into our attacking zone, finishing the term down by 17 points.

It the 2nd quarter, with the wind assisting us, we managed 2 goals, but the opposition managed 4 of their own plus 6 behinds.

So we went to halftime down 13-48, with Killarney Vale Black more effective at running into space, marking, then promoting the ball downfield to give themselves many scoring opportunities.

It the 3rd quarter, our Hawks showed much more fight, despite running into the wind, to outscore their opponents. This was repeated in the final quarter, where we scored 4 goals to 1, but Killarney Vale did add 7 behinds.

In the end, We only scored 1 goal less the Killarney Vale Black, but they created many more scoring opportunities as they scored 20 behinds to our 7.

The final score was Saratoga Hawks 7-7-49 defeated by Killarney Vale Black 8-20-68.

Areas for the team to work on are marking up on an opponent, as at times it seemed our opposition had more players on the field than us, but it was just that they were more effective at running into space. As well as working harder for each other via shepherding, more talk & more congratulating teammates when they've done something well.

This match may prove to be a good learning curve for our Hawks and the 2nd half fightback was very pleasing.

Alec Walters was a standout and thoroughly deserved Player of the Week. Whilst Rohan Draper received coach's award for his tenacity.
