Sara Hawks Under 11's - you make us Proud!

Today our Saratoga Hawks u11's played in an elimination final v Terrigal-Avoca at Hylton Moore oval.We were reduced to a team of 12, due to 2 of our major contributors throughout the season being unable to play today. We were up against a white hot opposition who opened the scoring very early in the 1st quarter, then went on with the job throughout the match to inflict a heavy loss on our u11's in terms of the scoreboard. To our boys credit, they tried extremely hard but we didn't have the strike power to promote the ball towards our forward line & subsequently, the majority of the match was played in our defensive half.

It was also a tough ask physically for our Hawks too, as we were playing on a very wet/heavy pitch. It became progressively difficult to match Terrigal-Avoca who had the luxury of a 5 strong interchange bench, with "fresh legs" aplenty, whereas our boys just had to slog it out - which they bravely did, showing great heart.

The playing group were reminded at match end to not feel despondent about today's result....it was just too big an ask today.

It was said that what is important is to reflect on a very successful & winning season, with some very positive footy being displayed by our boys.

We had, what many may have considered optimistic, a goal of a top 4 finish & playing finals footy.

To the boys' & coach Leigh's credit, this goal was achieved & the u11's certainly did the footy club & their families proud this season.

As has been the case all season, our families support was out in force today right to the final siren.

Special mention to Aidan's mum for the personalised cupcakes. Outstanding (see photos). A very nice gesture to give each player post game & typical of the community spirit this little footy club has...so thank you.

On behalf of Leigh & the players, we can't thank our families enough for this support...I'm sure it spurred the boys on throughout the season & especially in the previous 3 'must win' games we won to make the finals.

We look forward to acknowledging the players efforts at our club presentation day on Saturday, 13 September @ Davistown RSL auditorium (11am) & hope to see you all there.
