Sara Hawks Under 11's - 1st June Match Review

Post date: Jun 02, 2014 4:25:31 AM

Today Sara Hawks u11's lined up against the 3rd placed Terrigal/Avoca side.We had 13 players per side without the need to loan or borrow opposition players which was nice. There was a real intensity in this match from the opening siren, particularly in defence as the tackling was fierce. Our Hawks kicked the opening goal & the scores were level at the 1st break. We remained competitive for the majority of the 2nd qtr until the opposition turn up their aggression a notch & they snuck away on the scoreboard on the stroke of halftime. Terrigal/Avoca continued the trend in the 3rd quarter, we had a few players with injuries & found it tough going to stem the tide. The 4th qtr was very pleasing, as our u11 Hawks stuck to the task, reversed the momentum of the match & outscored their opponents in the final term.

The final score saw Terrigal / Avoca 8.7.55 def Saratoga 2.5.17 in what was the most physical game we have experienced so far this season.

Today showed our young squad the type of effort & intensity that is required to compete against a quality side & that it needs to be maintained for 4 quarters.

This season is a good learning curve for all our players as they continue to front up against generally older opposition & improve & put into play what coach Leigh has worked on at training.

Coach's award went to Callum D for his effort in the backline.

Player of the Week award was earned by Alec W.

Alec played with intensity throughout & spent time in the ruck, forward & backlines in a great all round display.
