Round 11 - Under 11's Stepping Up

Post date: Jul 21, 2014 7:7:25 AM

Round 11 saw our u11's meet the ladder leading, competition dominating Killarney Vale @ Adelaide St. Oval.

We met this team back in round 2 & suffered a heavy defeat which set us back confidence wise for a number of weeks following. So today, on the back of a string of recent wins & a game plan devised by coach Leigh to run our much bigger opponents around, we were hopeful of putting up much moreresistance this time around.

Due to weight of numbers, Killarney Vale loaned us 2 players per quarter to have a 14 per side game.

We ran with the wind in 1st term with aim of scoring some early points to maintain confidence levels. But our opponents dominated the scoreboard early & we went to the change 26 points down.

To our boys credit, they showed enormous resolve & fought their way back into the game, outscoring Killarney Vale in the 2nd qtr despite running into a blustery wind.

We continued where we left off in the 3rd term & got within 8 points heading into the final quarter.

Unfortunately, we found it tough in final qtr when Killarney Vale upped the tempo & combined with heading into the wind, we couldn't get out of danger zone & our opponents kicked a number of goals as we went away from one of our our game plan aims a bit of trying not to kick into centrefield.

The final score was Killarney Vale 13-12-96 bt Saratoga Hawks 6-3-39.

Even the most one eyed Killarney Vale supporters would agree the final score was not a true reflection of how hard our boys competed today, really rattling for at least half the game, a team that has dominated throughout all its games this season.

Nathan suffered a knee injury before halftime & we hope he is ok. There were plenty of other bumps & bruises after what was very physical game. The guy in the pink shirt got a workout running out the 'magic' water

Marcus C received the Player of the Week award & Rohan D (playing up from the under 9's) the coach's award.

All our players deserve massive praise for how hard they competed today & coach Leigh, myself & all our supportive parents couldn't be any prouder of our u11's. Well done boys!
